Women and Non-Binary Students

WOMEN’S AND NON-BINARY OFFICER

Clare is proud of its reputation as one of the most friendly and progressive colleges, and the UCS wishes to keep it this way! As Women and non-binary’s Officer, I will work with the welfare team to ensure that the views of self-defining women and non-binary students are reflected and promoted.

If you ever feel unsafe, worried, or just want a chat, I am always around to talk and don’t hesitate to get in touch. I can provide access to information concerning physical and mental health, contraception (as well as free chlamydia testing and free pregnancy tests), counselling services, life at Clare or anything else you may wish to talk about! There are also the other members of the UCS welfare team who will be around for all your other welfare-related needs. The weekly drop-ins are a great way to reach us too.

Outside the UCS, there are the wonderful College Nurses, Helen James and Jo Scoones. Other points of call within college include: your Tutor, the Senior Tutor, or your DoS for more academic related problems.

GENDER EQUALITY MOVEMENT (GEM)

Clare Gender Equality Movement is a society within the college that provides a forum for discussion on gender related issues, as well as hosting speakers and organising other events. Last year, we were fortunate enough to have some really compelling speakers such as Alice Aedy who is a 24 year-old documentary photographer and film-maker who has worked in refugee camps and countries such as Iran and Somaliland. Other events included poster making for the reclaim the night march which fights back against sexual violence and promotes gender equality. The women’s formal was also a highlight of Easter term, and this year GEM is hoping to raise funds towards the commissioning of a female portrait within college. Look out for the term-card!
